Permissiable gross train weight less gross vehicle weight
3390-1950= 1440kg
Errrrr, no! Each manufacturer sets their max tow weight and sometimes it is considerably lower. My X Trail is just 1350 kg on account of the fact it has an auto box, the manual is 1500 kg.

I googled the car before posting anything - it said max towing weight 1400kg.
OP does not state the year of the car so how can you be accurate about it as it changes on a regular basis? There is a website called Cuddles Abelgratis but over the years we have found on here that it was quite often wrong when checked against the plates on the car or the handbook/manufacturer's figures.
Cuddles Abelgratis kerbweight guide hasn't existed for some time.
The kerbweight stated by the OP indicates that the car is likely to be 2004 - 2010. UK Tow and Parkers Guide both state 1400kg max. tow for this car. UK Tow only lists one other model year for the 1.7 CDTi Astra and that is also 1400g max. tow - but the kerbweight is considerably lighter.
In my previous post I suggest that;
"You need to double check the kerbweight and maximum towing weight (braked trailer)"
I should have added - for your car - but as we were not talking about his bicycle I thought the implication would be enough.
I was, as you know, referring to your first post in which you do not even mention the manufacturer's max tow and therefore your advice was potentially incorrect. Max tow had not been mentioned until I asked the question and yet people were asserting it was good to go.
My point is that you cannot know that until all of the facts are known.
