Well done Skippy, I like the look of the new Octavia, it has a bit more rear legroom than the mark 2 version and allegedly the 2ltr diesel is the bees knees
I traded in my 350,000 mile mark 2 Octavia estate for the new Superb back in Feb, got £1500 as a trade in found out next day the garage sold it for £2000 about half an hour after I left to a Glasgow private hire driver

The 2nd car will the wife's car and she does not want such a large car, hence looking at Astra sized cars.

I looked at this one last night (link no longer works), and at £2,999 it is above our budget of £2,500 which we have gone up from £2,000 already.

I have spend over an hour going through Auto trader and Ebay for VW, Skoda and Audi cars within 50 miles of where I live and have only found one that meets our critera of
(1)Max Budget £2,700 but preferably £2,500
(2)Max Mileage 80,000 but preferably less.
(3)Insurance group max 7 (old 1-20 insurance groups) or Group 15 (new 1-50 insurance groups)
(4) Car tax max £220
(5)Average mpg 35 mpg or above.
The one car I have found is a 54 plate Seat Leon 1.6 SX up for £2,700, with 69,000, does any know what this can tow iro un braked trailers?
Thanks

Google is you friend...Seat Leon 2003 owners manual. Allow time for it to load. Pages 246 & 247 give unbraked tow weights of 600kg for the 1.6 petrol cars. For whatever car you are considering you should alway check owners manual for weights. Other internet info could be incorrect.
------------- Regards, Jack+Jon.

As a rough guide the max for an unbraked unit is 50% of the kerbweight or 750kg, whichever is the lower. However, as Jack + Jon said, you must doublecheck with the handbook etc in case the internet info is incorrect. As you are looking to tow 500kg most cars of the sort you are thinking of would be ok with this sort of weight but you still need to check the handbook.
