XC60 is far superior to any Skoda, including the ones that SkodaBob supplies ;-)
You will enjoy towing with it, when we changed for a 4x4 from a saloon car the tow was much more relaxed. Only problem then was we decided to get a bigger van !
I'm kind of future proofing Checkley - chances are we may change van in next 4 years and its likely to be something heavier as ours is so light for a 6 berth.

Although I have an XC60 on order, don't dismiss Skoda, I have towed with 3 Octavia vRS 170 TDi's and a Yeti 170 TDi .... all towed very well and were excellent cars. I miss them still. Sadly our current van is too heavy for the Octavia Scout I had my eye on.
Really looking forward to the Volvo though!

Well bit the bullet and traded in my V70 for a D4 xc60 just waiting for the DVLA to transfer the plate then I can enjoy.
Madasaman have you gone for the new 2WD D4 with the VEA engine?
Gets some good reviews and lots of praise for the new engine and 8 speed auto
Hope you enjoy yours, still really liking this car and glad with my choice!
The model range of the XC60 is somewhat confusing over the past few years with similar names having different engines and same model names having different outputs in different years!
The 5 cylinder engine all seem to have gone for on this thread is a cracker I would say and certainly has more character than the new D4 VEA 4 cylinder engine I test drove aswell - its a great engibne don;t get me wrong, just not as tuneful or quite as much poke as the D5 5 cylinder.
Plus I wanted AWD which you can;t yet get in VEA engine form.
Bit late to the party but I have had a Volvo V60 D5 R Design for 3 years used for work and towing, I have put 97k on the car now and the engine has not missed a beat, there has been a few niggles with electrics though. I towed all over the UK, France and into Spain with no problems, even over the Pyrenees there was simply no problem at all, I was even able to accelerate easily past lorries etc. I also think because it was the R Design with stiffer suspension we had none of the ^Tail Dragging" as you see on some rigs.Unfortunately, I am just about to change as I need to get a good re-sale value into my next car and as Volvo are dropping the D5 motor I'm looking at over marques, most likely a BMW 330d M Sport.

The 3.0 litre diesel BMs are nice cars, I had a 5 series before the Volvo and great car to drive. I actually had the twin turbo 535 which had enormous power and more so torque which would probably pull a house!
If going M sport check out the tow bar options, you may have to cut the rear bumper and consider whether you want to stick with the run flat tyres. You may find it is a little unsettled on bumpy roads with the stiff suspension but should be a solid tow car
