Ps: Also you need beware of the a170 from thirsk to the coast as caravans are forbidden to go up Sutton bank.

thanks....I'm not worried at all regards the A64.....it's the other two....the Pickering to Whitby road....then the Scarborough to Whitby road....people have posted to go the Scarborough way or some have said go Pickering to Whitby road then coming home go on Whitby Scarborough road to avoid Blue bank at Sleights...

I'm a nervous wreck and it's suppose to be a holiday

I appreciate you are nervous, I was too, but you really will be ok so try to stop worrying and look forward to the holiday. Go via Pickering a64 then a169. There are no really steep uphills going that way. It was straight forward and only my second time towing.   Coming back via Scarborough is much the same if you don't fancy going back the same way to avoid blue bank and the hairpin at horcum, but I guess you'd be ok even if you did that. You can make the .decision once you travelled it on the way there.

Coming back the same way is just as easy as it is going, just drop the car down into low gear at the bottom of the hill just before the Hole of Horcum and it climbs up a treat. The plus is that the ride is so much more pleasant and scenic than any other way, and no traffic jams through Scarborough.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
