Hyundai Tucson certainly are a good buy, but maybe a bit long in the tooth, you could always go for a Hyundai Santa Fe.

I run a Chrysler 300C Touring, best towcar I've ever owned with 30 years caravanning experience. Tows like a train and very stable. £200 fully comp. !

Never checked the mpg but several taxi drivers clain 40 mpg in an urban cycle.

How many miles a year do you do and how many of those are towing?

Value of money wise an estate probably offers best room for family versus running costs over an SUV or 4x4 if that is an issue

Also depends how old you want to go?

Getting a Seat/Skoda rather than VW and certainly Audi (which may be based around same platform) will certainly save you money, but depends on whether you value the finish and feel and indeed the badge which many do

£12k opens up a lot of cars and most will suggest their own through their own experiences of course

Unless you do a lot of miles I wouldn't dismiss petrol either

Father in law had a Santa fe before the Tuscan, he thought that was good too, we might get an ix35 next, we like the Hyundi,s, the last Tuscan,s were 2010 i believe.

Tucson on Autotrader just now 09 with only 38,000 on the clock. Think your right 09/10 was about the last of them.
