OP said current van 1200, yes the Kuga would do the job, but the heaviest they would tow is 1500, Kuga wouldn't do the job, safely.
correct details for the New Kuga details are as follows
2Ltr 4x2 kerbweight 1614kgs max tow 1900kg
2ltr 4x4 kerbweight 1702 max tow 2100kg
as I said before heavier than the Mondeo & don't forget the weight shown are for the bottom of the range cars, My car is 150kgs heavier than the brochure weight, due to high spec.
Please note the Mondeo is far bigger than a average sized car its actually wider than a S class merc and is certainly bigger than a Passat
if the OP was talking about fitting in her garage then there is no difference between the mondeo and the Passat, but comparing a mondeo and the merc! well something is going to be outside and it wont be the mondeo!
Ok kazo, Taken from Mercedes benz website s class width (brand new) 1899mm.
I was actually talking about the S Class that was of a same age as the Mondeo mk4
now are you going to stop this tit-for-tat I made a simple point that the Mondeo is a big car a lot bigger than most people credit it with, its also a very heavy car with big towing capabilities,
I think that a mondeo is just your average family car! its nothing special really, yeah it may do its job of pulling the average family caravan and getting the family about but that's about it, and yes my father had a few when he was alive in fact he had everything that ford could produce right from the early days, from the first cortinas to sierras then mondeos, and they where a good rep car/family car but that's all,
as for doing tit for tat! lol I don't have time for that, but I do make sure that the info I give out is correct and if that means I produce facts and figures then so be it! and of course my figures refer to the newest models
Kazo if you think its average that's your opinion and you are entitled to it, fact is it is a large family car and is often classed as that in magazines.
The op asked for a smaller car and I advised she look at the Kuga, regarding the facts and figures you produced you got both the Mondeo and S class wrong you also misread what I actually put in the 1st place.
Anyway I've got a holiday to prepare for now off on Good Friday for a nice 9 day holiday
Oh dear - I didnt mean to cause such a debate. When I started driving the Passat it felt, and still does to me, like a man's car especially after driving my beloved Micra (RIP Bunty). My best friend (husband) has just bought the Mondeo Titanium - a fabulous bit of kit and highly recommended by almost every dealer I have spoken to, my husband is lusting after it, and that was my choice originally. But it looks so big to me. I suppose I am being a bit girly but I really wanted something to suit me, seeing as I'll be driving it every day. But as Millercom says, I can't have it all - I was really looking to see if there was an option I'd overlooked. I imagine it will still be the Mondeo or Passat when it comes to it.
The good news is my car hasnt been written off by insurers (someone crashed into me whilst I was stationery at a roundabout last week) so the sense of urgency has gone now.
