yes I have seen all the tests, on holiday next week so will leave it until I come back. The all new Superb comes out here in September, I'm thinking there will be some bargain one or two year old cars about then,

My Mercedes E250 Estate will tow 2100Kg. But it weighs only 1845 Kg so I wouldn't even think of it (my 'van's barely 1400Kg), not sure if it would even be legal.

The problem is that cars are getting lighter generation by generation while caravans are getting heavier (look at older vans weighing in at 800 - 900Kg).

While modern transmissions, brakes and electronic stability systems help, you can't beat the laws of physics: light car/heavy caravan = tail wagging dog.

The caravan this car towed for the test was only 1389 Kg, and still above the 85% weight ratio.

While 100% is feasible I'd be happier with a bit of a margin for safety.

Skoda should do a towing version with a 200Kg steel plate welded on

Had a road test today in a saloon 15 reg 140psi, it drove very well but it did drone a bit at low rev's. I did ask for a manual but got a DSG it was quite luxurious inside with the cream leather. Have a test drive tomorrow in a Mazda CX-5 will see how that compares.

will do we are going away for a long weekend on Thursday ,driving solo I have noticed the steering is lighter at low speed than my MK1 with hydraulic power assistance but tightens up nicely at speed,we went for a drive up to Skegness last Saturday and averaged 57.5 mpg solo so very happy with it so far.

Fuel consumption will get better once you get used to the car

Ok ordered an estate last of the present mkII. Got an excellent deal just putting deposit on it today. Skoda Superb 170ps estate manual, had a real job getting hold of a manual gearbox.

Personally I would have waited until the new one is out, then got an even better deal
but the estate should be slightly better on fuel due to there being less drag turbulence between the rear of the car and van

There's only limited stock left Bob, over 6K off don't think I would get a better deal than that.
