Thanks to everyone for your feedback. It's a minefield especially as we know so little about cars of any sort. I think we will just have to take the plunge and get the best we can for the money we have and pray!

Working on mitsi's for the MOD since 85 and seeing all of these models, its all down to previous owners maintenace or neglect... injectors dont need replacing until well after 100,000 mls, auto transmissions are bullet proof, manuals pretty much the same, flashing 4x4 lights is generally a vacuum solenoid at £25, rust? rear wheel arches because people let dirt build up behind the arch and rot sets in, MPG low 20's and average for a large 4x4, then generally any problems are normal for any vehicle of this type and age. But you'll be getting a motor that is powerful, stable and an excellent tow motor, If you want a similar vehicle take a look at a later Mitsubishi Delica, very similar running gear but more room inside and still a great tow motor. And i agree about visiting the the forums, (i'm a moderator on a few  )
