Very strange, thought I'd replied to this thread. Thanks for all the input.
We eventually went for a Kia Sorento K3 auto, and I have loved driving it. (I know it wasn't even on the list)
No Volvo in our price range locally, didn't like the Jeep, don't know what happened with shogun and BMW, so as Sorento had won tow car of the year for several years, and OH had always said that would be our next car, we toddled off to have a look. The trouble with second hand is finding one locally there are always loads hundreds of miles away.
We are off next week so hopefully it will tow well too.
