When I towed I had two Sorento's over about 7 years one on a 56 plate and the last one on a 59 plate. The newer one had a much more powerful engine but lacked the SLS of the earlier model and personally I did not find the newer one as stable as the original. I don't recall the rear dropping much with the van attached and I also has a tow bar bike rack which also added weight to the rear. It did cross my mind to fit MAD springs to the 59 plate but eventually decided to change to a motorhome.

Your not making an alteration so why would you tell them, all they are is a more heavy duty springs.
just like fitting winter tyres you don't have to tell them

Some (most?)insurance companies require notification re winter tyres. I'm not saying it's not crazy. Had to when I fitted them to my Skoda Scout. If the springs are heavier duty they are an alteration. The Scout (& the earlier regular 4x4) used to suffer with 3 bikes on the towbar bike carrier & a boot full. I enquired a few years ago & there was a hike but I don't remember how much hence my question.

The current car copes much better but I was thinking it could do with some assistance.

It was on watchdog and all the news channels ,even Jeremy Vine on the radio, you don't need to inform your insurance for winter tyres tow balls or changes to suspension, when shockers wear out you can put heavy duty types if you wish, the only time your meant to inform them is if you make an engine enhancement like chipping a diesel, and most wont even load you for that

That's good to know.

We were offered a big reduction on a premium if we reinstated the suspension on a Jeep that was raised a couple of inches a few years back.

Looks like a couple of insurers still need to be notified re tyres:

It was the assisters that I was told would attract an increase but that was a while back.

I have had 2 Sorentos. The first was a 05 Plated 2.5 Manual.Towed like a dream but was a bit thirsty. The 2nd is a 2011 Plate 2.2 Manual. Still tows like a dream and is not as thirsty. I tow a Challenger and it has always sat dead level, either empty or full.We had a rather large GSD in the back as well.

That's not true for most insurance companies. They ask if you have made any alterations to he car since it left the factory and you are generally required to declare all. They may not change the premium but you are required to tell them.

I've just phoned my insurance company to check this as I'm due for renewal and they confirmed they want to know about ALL modifications since leaving the factory including tow bars.

I am with one of the largest insurance companies in the UK so can't see others being much different.

You could try another Kia dealer

No coil aswell it was only 2004 so same chassis engine etc except different suspension to the titan as it is lower and softer it's only done 50000 miles and our old one had covered 150! Lol I've cured the power problem I changed air filter it was black and full of leafs and fuel filter will get some mad springs for rear to stiffen it up..

Lots of cars need suspension aids when a van is hitched up (just look at the state of some of the outfits you see on the motorways), but very few get them.

I don`t understand why you should expect Kia to upgrade your car when it`s six years old! If it was brand new you might stand a (slim) chance of a consideration, but after someone else has used it for six years - not a snowballs chance.
MAD springs are excellent, I`ve used them on numerous cars in the past and they absolutely transformed the cars they were used on and worth every penny.

yes but mines not a car! its a suv 4x4 we had the earlier one with different set up as ive stated! already this is totally different set up as if you read things carefully your would note I was NOT expecting kia to jump out of the blue and give me a free upgrade I was asking them if there was upgraded springs for the titan, that's two different things here.... as I clearly stated.. oh and might be six year old but its only done 50,000 miles and its in mint! condition!! my old one had done 150,000 and was a better tow vehicle plus my van as you stated is brand new paid for by cash!!!so its not a old tatty set up like you seem to think. lol and as once again I clearly stated. I think you need new glasses my dear! lol

"i have spoke to kia and lots of different people about this problem and the only thing i can do now is change the coil springs on the rear end which i will be doing asap!! this should not have to be done and kia should be offering me a kia upgrade solution," -Your words, not mine.

I don`t need glasses, `my dear`, perhaps you need English lessons! To use the word "offer" is to imply you expect Kia to provide you with new suspension. Had you used word "suggest" or similar the entire meaning of the phrase takes on another meaning. You will also notice there are several others who interpret your posting in the same way as I have done.

"Say what you mean, and mean what you say". You can`t expect the answers you want if you are unable to give others the tools to understand what you are saying.

If the car was 6 years old then it isn't Kia's problem!
Have you spoken to the garage you bought it from?
Did you test drive it before you bought it?

Make up your mind when you bought it. One post says 4 weeks ago and the next 2 weeks ago!!

I fitted the MAD assistors when my mitsubishi outlander was 3 years old and just 17k on the clock. Some cars are just not suitable for a high nose weight. My previous jeep compass sat completely level with the same caravan attached. The ride in my outlander was much smoother and softer than the jeep though. I say was, with the assistors if can be a bit bouncy now. It all depends what you want from a car. Your old sorento had self levelling suspension that compensated for the load of the caravan probably, by preloading the springs. You say that the new sorento does not have this feature. If you bought the car only weeks ago then the dealer you bought it off will likely take a look as it will have some warranty. A set of new road springs only cost about £30 so changing them will be no great cost.other wise you could seek a refund and choose another vehicle. I wouldn't hold much hope of the dealers coming up with a solution without being pointed in the right direction though. I have no faith in people who work in the motor industry (or the caravan repair industry either) though.

I looked at fitting heavy duty springs to my outlander, it would have been cheaper than the MAD spring assistors but how heavy duty is heavy duty? At least with the MAD assistors it's a guaranteed result. The guys that sell them in Tewkesbury say they supply them to mitsubishi to fit to vehicles they supply to the water company's and breakdown companies that are sold to tow.
