The only way to get anybody to take a punt on Kia or Hyundai was to give a longer warranty.

Can't agree there. We had a choice of company cars, and all our engineers chose the Hyundai. We therefore had a fleet of Hyundai i40 Tourers at work, they were brilliant. Lovely to drive, all the bells and whistles and totally reliable. I did 35,000 in a year in mine before retiring, and didn't have a single problem! I've never had any company car as reliable as that in all my years of driving. You only have to look at the taxis in Norwich, hundreds of Hyundai i40's

It seems to have worked as they sell well.
Some established brands such as Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Honda do too. My view is that something as expensive as a car should have a decent warranty.
Nothing wrong with VAG cars, I do like some of the Skoda and Seat models!

i thinks its only a matter of time before all new cars come with a 5 year warranty.

Engineers don't buy Kias & Hyundais. Private buyers do. That is buyers with cash not 'buyers' with no cash that have personal leasing deals. Probably same with Toyota which is why they have longer warranties. To make them attractive to cash buyers.

European makes are more likely to be supplied on leasing deals both private & commercial so long warranty is not required to sell the car. In UK 80% of new cars are leased.

The 3yr warranty on cars is UK consumer law. Longer than that then it's marketing. Renault increased their warranty to 4yrs presumably to try & improve their poor UK image & Vauxhall ended their 'Lifetime warranty' scheme when they realised it was going to cost them too much.

I was an engineer, in the RAF then taught engineering in a college,so I must be an exception.Yes a private buyer.

You are correct in the fact we purchased our cars,we have had 3 Kias and now a Hyundai.

If I was still working I would probably lease too,as I had more disposable income.

They are well made, and reliable. The guarantee is a good incentive, and gives peace of mind.

Not surprised about the Vauxhall lifetime warranty ending, my wife had Vauxhalls as company cars
.None were touble free but we only had each for 3 years.
They are'nt bad cars.Doubt if I would buy one now.
