It won't be economically viable to be changing injectors & turbo on a car that age. Unless it turns out to be something simple then at some point you need to stop chucking good money after bad.

Turbo failure could be due to towing.

Your engine obviously works much harder when towing an object that weighs nearly as much as the car itself, which means the turbo will run harder and hotter (and turbos can spin at over 200,000 rpm).

The failure generally happens because, after working hard, the engine is turned off. This causes the lubricating oil in the white-hot turbo to burn and carbonise.

The answer is, after a long tow, to let the engine idle for 5 mins, which will let the turbo cool down to a safe temperature.

Modern engines are designed a bit better than that. Even when towing up a mountain it will stay well within oil temperature range. The turbo gets no extra wear when the engine is working harder as it is not driven by the engine. It just pumps air driven by the exhaust. So if anything turbo is working less hard as engine is probably revving slower when towing.

The purpose of idling engine for a few secs before turning off is to allow turbo to slow down as engine stops pumping oil when turned off but turbo continues to spin if engine is not allowed to idle.

The op's car sounds fairly typical of a 12yr old diesel Mondy which is why you don't see many around anymore. Possibly more to do with the type of or lack of servicing it has had throughout it's life I guess. Nothing to do with towing.

get a EGR blanking plate fitted ,the engine management light will stay on though ,but just ignore that and the car will pull like a good one and you'll get far better fuel consumption to.

You can also get the blanking plate with a hole in the centre (8mm dia I think) which supposedly allows the E M light to go out.
