Tomc61uk- hubby looking at Insignia estate 2.0 diesel around 10/12 plate at moment as our Freelander has died and we're without a tow-car at the moment, is your car an estate and do you find it ok pulling a 4 berth caravan, our is 1315kg.

Never pulled with anything other than 4x4 and I think he'll miss the height!!

Well we did it, soon to pick up 2012 insignia.

Hope your search is going smoothly, be interested what you think of an automatic for towing if that's what you end up with.

Absolute chalk and cheese towing with an Auto compared to a manual, Auto is a far superior experience. After 43 years of driving nothing would make me go back to a manual, all that stick waving and peddle pushing...........Why would you want to do that! 😀👍

Pull my swift challenger 540 1500kg no bother with Insignia manual gearbox ....just fancy a change..going for the Mazda CX5 Manual diesel ..like the extra height ..decision now is choosing a tow bar....fixed flange type or removable...????

Been phoning around for towbars myself, the removable coming up about £140 extra from the fixed! Would go for this if we had reversing sensors or camera but as we haven't will be fixed £310

I have a CX 5 auto AWD, had a removable towbar fitted prior to purchase, it was fitted at the dealer by a towbar fitter, it is a Brink removable with dedicated electrics. The 13 pin socket folds up behind the bumper and when the ball is removed it is not possible to tell there is a towbar fitted. Cost was £400, maybe got it a bit less than would be the case normally as the car was new (2016).
Great towcar, towing a Coachman Amara 520 (MLPTM 1475) mpg is 28-30, solo can get 48-50 on a long run keeping to speed limits.

A month late in replying but really its an easy choice for the CX-5.

Auto is a torque convertor box with a 2000kg towing limit.
No maintenance that I know of.

It has more torque and pulls my 1700kg swift with out effort. I'm on my second now and hopefully will have another.

Its the best suv used to buy according to whatcar.

Only negative is the 88kg NW limit, but it carries the limit easily with minimum drop at the back, even with a fully loaded boot. The 2015 top of the range that I have has a 1703kg kerbweight, 2017 car is now around 1743kg.

thanks guys for input......I decided on a CX5 2014 2.2diesel 2WD. looking at prices for towbars, dedicated electrics is rather expensive but probably the best option..what do you think ????

I have bypass electrics, and a witter detachable, in hindsight I would have gone the fixed route just for the convenience and £100 saving.

The witter bar does not require the bumper removing or a cut, some do.

Car was booked in for towbar today swan neck fixed with vehicle specific wiring..great job done ...£513 from Indespension Newcastle..recommend these guys
