I had a Skoda Superb, until last year. I bought it almost new, ex demo car, next to the top of the range,a great car.
Lst year my wife & I were diverted off the M62, as the Police closed the motorway.so ended up going throught Derbyshire, nose to tail for miles, stop start, not good when towing. The clutch started feeling light, then smoke started pouring from under the bonnet. No where to pull over, eventually hit the M60 round Manchester. The clutch recovered, & we managed to get home.
I just think it was bad luck, I took it back to the main dealers, as it only had 7,000 miles on the clock, they fitted a new clutch and release bearing on warranty. However we could still smell the smoke residue, so we changed it for a New Kodiaq, top of the range, Edition 190 DSG Auto 4x4 7 seats [ not that we need 7 seats ] The reason to change!
Our van is a Elldis Avente 462, we are thinking of getting a heavier van, so if the Superb gave problems with towing this van. We may get similar probs towing a heavier van. So we went for the Kodiaq. plus auto, so in heavy traffic , less stress on the clutch. Next week it is going in for the 12 month service, it has covered 5,600 miles, but in the next 3 months it will be used a great deal, towing our caravan , the Avante. I will report how we get on.
Going back to the Original question, They are a lovely car, ecconomical, bags of room, well equiped.
If i change the Kodiaq in a couple of years, & stick to Skoda. I would get a Superb petrol, auto estate, I think its a bit heavier than the saloon, but a lot of car for the money.I wouldnt be given a Ford.Sorry its a long story.

I don’t own a Skoda, never have, but it is on my list when I change for sure.

I am a bit of a petrol head and, sadly, read a lot of motoring press and reviews about cars, and the Skoda is right up there with the very best. If you compare a Superb with a BMW 3 series or Mercedes C Class for example, well there ain’t no comparison. The Superb wins hands down.

I took a Superb 2.0 Estate DSG on a full day test drive, and what a car that is! I was blown away. No wonder the parent company have issues with it.......It is better than any VW or Audi for sure.

Sorry to be controversial, but anyone who believes Skoda are the car they were 20 years ago........Knows absolutely nothing about cars.

The Superb, is a great car, as I mentioned and i will be getting another , more than likely.
It has a lot of lovely touches to it, unberellas in the doors, a detachable flash light in the boot,a full size spare wheel, a lot of car for the money, ps I work at Ford, in Germany, my preference not to buy one?

I had the MkII Superb estate 170, previous to that I had a Honda CR-V 2.2 diesel the Superb towed better than the CR-V. Loads of room in it, I now have the MKIII with DSG gearbox and have just returned from France with it a few days ago and have to say it's Superb.
