We are expecting 60mph + winds here in Cornwall. As previously said lots of events planned for the weekend are cancelled. The roads were busy yesterday and there will be lots of people packing up and leaving today. Looks like the winds die down by Sunday.
Better to stay home than to risk being involved in an accident, or left stranded on the motorway by someone elses misfortune.
The general offical advice is for Caravans and high sided veichles to stay off the motorways and exposed areas in the south west. I have just received a warning update to my Facebook page, but cannot remember which of the agencies sent it, im registered with several!

As a novice tower I was invited to Brixham with family a 250 mile trip,I'd never even towed on a motorway. So of we went for a week,as the week went on the weather worsened and the forecast for Sunday, leaving day was heavy rain and 60mph winds,so we left on the Saturday in bright sunshine blue skies and hardly a breath of wind.Got home and put van to bed and had a meal then off to bed myself.
Early on Sunday morning a family member rang me from Brixham to say they'd had a shower of rain and that they were going to the beach.I was gutted
just where has this 60mph winds come from? yeah sounds more dramatic doesn't it on the news, but ive checked various weather web sites and none are saying the gusts are anywhere near 60 mph max was penzance at 3 am being 44 mph and anyone towing will have a head wind all the way from bristol
Such a shame for the Cowes week Yacht racing event, most of the Regatta events for this weekend have been cancelled, the wind speeds are making it too dangerous for crews to compete, causing much disappointment amongst all concerned.
