You can hardly get a shopping basket in the back of a Micra! Totally useless really, and I really don’t care.......That you don’t care.

Will you charge the car at home and if so, will you or your employer pay for the electricity?
The 40 mile range sounds good but in winter the car will tend to run on the petrol engine it you put any electrical load on such as windscreen demise, rear screen heater and heated front seats.
I speak from experience as I am on my third plug in hybrid.
First was a Mitsubishi Outlander phev.
Second was a Hyundai Ioniq phev.
Third is a Hyundai Ioniq phev premium se.
You may get somewhere near the advertised range in may to September but as soon as you switch on electrical loads such as heaters or air on, this takes miles range out of the car.
Plug in hybrids are intended for somebody who charges the car at home, drives up to 20 miles to work, charges the car at work etc.
I am a rep and can drive 400 miles per day, mainly on motorways, certainly not what plug in hybrids are intended for but the experts who govern us give company car drivers tax advantages for driving plug in hybrids so I will ply the game to my advantage. Getting back to the Hyundai Ioniq, the only plug in hybrids seem to be company cars, the non plug in hybrids are driven by private motorists, having spoken to a few, they said that the extra cost for the plug in hybrid version of the car and the reduced running costs for plugging in did not justify the higher purchase price of the plug in hybrid.

Rk I live 18 miles from work and it’s intend to charge whilst at work with a small top up at home, I know that the range will reduce but I’ll try my hardest to run as long as I can on Electric only, we’ve got a few of these in fleet now and everyone is raving about them even big mileage reps

We looked at the Ioniq while our Santa Fe was in for its service.
Quite nice, we could have gone for the BEV as a second car but the price is higher. The salesman told us most private buyers opt for the hybrid.
In the end we decided against it and bought an ex demo Mini convertible! Its an ecoboost 1.5 petrol, lots of fun.
Wife loves it, now need some decent weather for roof down time!
Euro 6 so no issues with congestion zones etc!

Just found this on InsideEVS forum
Someone asked if anyone had towed with the Honda Clarity Hydrogen model.
He wanted to tow a jet ski.

Page 93 in the owner's manual: "Your vehicle is not designed to tow a trailer. Attempting to do so can void your warranties."

I am seriously worried about the future of caravanning with all the hype about electric cars . We can't all afford a Tesler , we have a long way to go yet if these are going to be the norm . What about charging on sites , what about people who live in flats , or houses were they can't park out side there own property . Not everyone has a drive way , and access to charging points . I think those in the know have got there knickers in a twist and panicked . Or perhaps they don't really know at all

It certainly is a dilemma.

The hybrid Toyota RAV can tow 1500kg as can Mitsubishi phev, but fuel consumption could be heavy towing being petrol.
The Volvo xc90 have diesel and petrol hybrid choices. Lovely car but a lot of money.

The rav 4 can tow 1600kgs but has a 9 month waiting list, it's also 2/4k on company car tax, i speced one up as i was thinking of getting one, it cam to just shy of 40k and had plastic seats.

I'm sure the xc60 is around 50/60k, i think the plug in xc 40 starts at 42k god knows what the xc90 will be.

Ford now have a plug in Kuga but it has a tow limit of 1200Kgs

Thanks for the numbers Bessie, it will be interesting to see what the full specs will be for the Tesla Model “Y” it is bound to have some kind of towing capability.

The Model “Y” will probably start deliveries in the U.S. next month, and RHD versions for the U.K. sometime next year.

The Tesla Model “3” towing capacity is just 910kg and to be fair I can’t see the Model “Y” being much more, maybe 1,200kg at best.

At least with 300 miles range on a full charge, you can say that when towing that will reduce to around 200 miles, so quite doable as a fast charge will take under 45 minutes to get you back up to full range again.
