I agree 100% with it however it does not stop the numpty towing at 70mph or more and using the outside lane to over take.

I wonder how long it will be before they introduce an MOT for caravans and trailers. Wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. On the other hand, I wonder how many unsafe caravans and trailers there are on the road? Probably far less than the number of unsafe drivers.

It’s definitely happening... towed a van and trailer combo up the m6 past doxey (Stafford) dvsa checkpoint today. Black and yellow “wasp” car on his perch. About a mile later he’s creeping up on me. Not too worried as legal with tacho etc, getting ready for the “follow me” lights when........ a sprinter with trailer loaded with steel mesh overtakes me and that’s who he picked. So yes, they are definitely targeting trailers.

The govt have decided in their wisdom that it is not worth introducing MOT for caravans. A MOT is only good for the day it is issued and does not sadly prevent speeding, over.loading or reckless driving.

^^ also the last time I got pulled in for a dvsa trailer check, the guy said part of the problem is they have no reliable way of testing over run brakes.

Not to be political but caravan workshops were closed until the day sites opened. How were owners to get them serviced.

The majority of caravan workshops were open and also mobile technicians were available.

I use a mobile, charged me £60 for chassis/running gear service, its not much.

No. They were closed and that's why Bailey and swift extended the service date by 6 months for warranty purposes.
Mobiles may have continued but would not be able to cope with the numbers.

Your correct Navver, last year on the first lock-down they was closed and warranty was extended.
But since last May our have been open and normal service since then, so no excuse.
May be different around the country?

I went via from Derbyshire to East coast Lincolnshire this last week.
The amount of horse boxes being towed no mirrors, same with caravans.
The state of some of the trailers and caravans that are being towed is dreadful.

But they will always run the gauntlet am afraid, and get away with it.

Those that follow the rules will always suffer.

Non essential retail (Caravan servicing) and campsites for self contained accommodation both opened on 12th April. Step 2.

I still say opening caravan sites the day servicing opened must have led to many un-serviced caravans and trailers on the road.

Well mine went in for repairs in Feb 2021.
Had all new motor movers fitted as the last lot burnt out.
Also had full service end of April 2021.

The extension of warranty by bailey was in 2020.

Also Caravan and Motorhome service were open, in 2021, as long as they collected and took to workshop and returned to your house.
If we took them, then we may have been in breach of the regulations.
So our service center was open, and repairs done.

Stopped at Strensham last Thursday and the DVLA were doing checks on caravans. Unit parked next to me got a pretty good going over. No mirrors and the break away cable was looped over the towball. Owner said that was the only way to do it untill the inspector looked underneath and pointed out the attachment point. Owner replied that he’d never bent down to look under the towbar

We got pulled over in Germany in our PVC, weighed and full vehicle check we were OK, but others (caravans and motorhomes) were not so lucky. They had a skip full of camping chairs, tables and a few awnings.
So it's not unique to UK
