However, one thing I am curious about is where the 100% rule comes from. The manual version of my X Trail has a kerb weight of 1,625kg, but the maximum towing weight is 2,000kg. Surely that is well over 100%? Some vehicles weighing under 2,000kg have a towing limit of 3,000kg. If the 100% rule is law, how is it legal to tow 3,000kg with a vehicle weighing only 2,000kg?
Where are you getting the info that the 100% rule is law?
Just an impression I got from this thread. I didn't actually believe that it was, but wondered if I was missing something recent. I used to tow for a living 40+ years ago and I often used to tow trailers way heavier than the towing vehicle, usually a Ford Transit.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin
