I have a Nissan Elgrand all mode 4x4, normal towing is 2wd otherwise it drinks the fuel, the 4x4 is piece of mind that gets my outfit of a wet field and thats full lock 50/50 distribution. Over the winter months driving solo I put it in auto 4wd mode and that gives me piece of mind should the rear driving wheels slip it automatically kicks the front wheels into drive.
So at the end of the day 4x4 isnt required to tow a van, its just piece of mind. If you get stuck on a wet field, there should be someone there to help you off....
You dont get many 4x4 8 seaters with 3.2 turbo diesel automatics and still only pay £185 a year road tax.... I'm in a win win situation!
