We use a Mio PDA (wife uses it for work) which has GPS.

We are using Pocket Navigator 6 software on it ( full European cover).

We are going to update to version 8 or 9 of the software. The maps load on to SD cards which slot in the PDA.

All EU maps will fit on one large capacity SD card!

They do an HGV version which apparantly has low bridges, weight restrictions on it but it is about £150 as against £69 for the ordinary version.

On the gadget show on 5 this week they tested various devices with a GPS attachment and application, one was an i phone with gps adaptor and software.

It worked fine but the adaptor and application were more than the cost of an off the shelf gps!!! ( Plus the expensive 1-phone!!) Hmmm good choice n'est-ce pas?

They shouldn't have needed a seperate GPS attachment - new iPhones and other mobiles (like my Nokia N96) have the GPS aerial built-in...
