Thanks - Well we have a bailey Pageant Bretagne which I towed for the first time with my 08 Mondeo diesel - towed well - averaged 30mpg on country lanes.
Still considering a carens as a 2nd car that "could" tow if necessary
We haven't priced them yet Pamela..so can't help you..wouldn't have thought a fortune...when we had Volvo one fitted, the guy said ford and vauxhall were the cheapest...
Can't speak for the insignia but just did my mondeo, 110 for a swan neck tow bar, 150 for the towing module and electrics and 60 for ford dealer to activate it. Newer cars often need a dedicated towing module which links with the onboard systems.
Towequipe sell a swan neck for £118. We have used them for our last two mobility cars. The present one is a nissan qashqai, they fitted that for £186 all in. Bargain.
We have a local fitter to us who we use, don't have dealership fit it....never have on any of our motability cars, always give invoice when handing car back...
no we don't use the dealers either, far to exspensive, but i do phone motorbility up and let them know i am having a tow bar fitted, which u have to do so its on their records.
When I asked Motability about it they said that as the fitting has to be carried out by an approved workshop it's worth asking the dealer before placing an order to see if they can offer a good price (free) to secure the order.
I decided against the Insignia as it's a bit too long but our local Trailer fitters who I used for the Citroen reckoned a New Vauxhall tow-bar would be around £400-600.
