Me too - but not as much as the bikes on the pavement in the centre of Birmingham who think that they have right of way over pedestrians as long as they ring their bell!  My husband is deaf and so does not move out of the way - luckily for them, that means he doesn't hear them swear at him either!!

I thought the law had now changed and it is no longer legal to ride a bike on the pavement?
I'll go and check

From the highway code

63 Cycle Lanes.Use of cycle lanes is not compulsory and will depend on your experience and skills, but they can make your journey safer.

64 You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement.

Having thought about this, here is my view.

I wonder if those that state "their blood boils/they deserve what they get/they're asking for it" would think differently if it was their child on the bike in font.

I know that driving standards are not perfect BUT why are so many people unable to control their own emotions when they see something that THEY decide isn't right. You only have one perspective, one view and they are not the law. It's not anyone's responsibility to take another road user to task, or if someone makes a mistake deliverately make things more difficult for them.

I make no appologies for stating that I believe many (but not all) road users to be self centred and hold other peoples lives in very low regard. A car weighs 1000kg-200kg and will injure, maime or kill on contact. It's not a question of I'm right so I'm not going to let you in/push you into the middle of the road/ swear at you/drive at you/ flick a V sign at you, it's a question of common decency.

Those that drive in an insular manner with no consideration are adding to the problem. Think of your fellow road user as your mother, would you like her to be on the recieving end of your actions? Kids sat in the back hearing mummy say new words that they then repeat at school. Where do we want this to go? Next time somone needs to get into your lane, let them, be of help to them, smile, they may smile and thank you. If you are polite, many will be polite in return and the more we are, the more others will follow. I know it sounds unrealistic but if you were teaching a child how to drive, how would you justify your actions?

Pedestrian, cyclist, car driver, bus driver, we all share the same space, no-one has more right to be there and if we were all just a little more tolerant of what we see, travel would be more more pleasant. Why not make someone elses journey easier for them? Next time they may make it easier for you

Simon

Some cyclists do break the rules - exactly the same as many motorists. An aggressive response when this happens is exactly the WRONG thing to do.

No road users pay directly for road maintenance so why should cyclists specifically? The vehicle road tax revenues go straight to the exchequer & have done since the 1920s, none of it is ringfenced for road building or repairs in any way.

I thought this thread was about cars with caravans and overtaking cyclists, surely road tax although linked is not connected to how people should drive.

How do you know what they are thinking?
Just realised there was no point in me posting this as you already knew what I was going to say('')

Sorry, only messing with you. But my point is we are all judging others, and in reality, we don't know why people make mistakes but they do. You do, and I do. Caravans don't pay road tax either so I think your on unpopular territory suggesting we pay more tax
Regards
Simon

Its not should they,or not, bikers pay road tax. its just a pain when you go through a city centre, bike lanes or no bike lanes, bikes squeeze past you n/s or o/s, taking the paint with them, knocking the wing mirrors, then they turn round and look at you as if you have two heads!Just me maybe. but i have a right to be on any road i pay for a MOT road tax and ins. Bikers nil.We cant give a wide birth both sides for bikers, Horse`s i do slow down and give them a wide birth, when all said and done they have a brain.some bikers dont Ok should they hold a licence? maybe thats a better route to take, But then again a licence dont stop you from getting killed, but at leased they have read the highway code.

motorist and cyclist here but dont use the bike so much on roads now as its full of inconsiderate morons in cars . those who overtake then turn left immediately in front of you , or even worse , overtake then stop to park at roadside 50 yards in front half on pavement then lob the door open in your path. still got the scar on my chin from when some dork did this to me when i was riding to school !!
nobody has any patience these days.
some cyclists are their own worst enemy though ,riding 2 a breast on a twisty road for instance , come on guys , give us a chance to overtake and leave you with the desired space as we do so.

The majority of cyclists do in fact pay road tax, because most of them do also own cars.

Interesting fact of the day (thanks to wikipedia...):

The direct use of taxes collected from motorists to fund the road network was opposed by Winston Churchill, who predicted "It will be only a step from this for them to claim in a few years the moral ownership of the roads their contributions have created".

Looks like his prediction was right!

I think the attitudes between motorist and bike rider (often the same people) are absolutely appalling. Many of the posters on this thread (both bikers & motorists) need to take a rehabilitation course.
Some shouldn't be on the roads with these attitudes.
