We tow our folding camper which is a 1000kg, with a Nissan Terrano 3.0. It as a kerb weight of 1908kgs, 253lbs torque. In fact just got in from a trip to Devon done about 800 odd miles did'nt know I was pulling it. Previous to that we had a Fleetwood twin axle which was about 1900 kg all up and it towed fine.
A lot of people have been saying good things about the Terrano Colin.
Do you find 4wd makes any difference when towing or just when you're on pitches and low speed?
You were nearly 100% with your Fleetwood! Good to Hearst was fine.
Nice set up Geoff - I've just checked out your gallery.
I particularly like the number plate on the car!
I don't think you'd have a problem towing anything with that.
Mercedes ML350 (2175KG) towing Swift Island Iona (1292KG) 59% utterly unaffected by sidewinds/HGVs and more than capable of towing at 60mph (and more!) uphill and downdale, fuel consumption is crippling though!

This my second Terrano the first was a 2.7 but the 3.0 is a more refined engine it is more economical.I really rate them servicing is a doddle. It has a transfer box so most of the time it is in 2wd then I just select 4wd when needed. To be honest I run it with a/t tyres which have a decent grip on grass.Your right about the Fleetwood though but with two adults in and gear in the back the motor comes in over 2 ton.it pulled it really well and I find twin axles tow better and are more stable. I get around 26 to 28 towing.
Cheers Colin.
They sound really good towcars.
The Kia is good, but I've noticed the difference with the heavier van.
I've spoken to a friend who has caravanned for years today and he has given me the number of a company that 'chips' cars.
He has had his motor home done and reckons it has made a real difference.
Might be cheaper than changing!
Cheers Markh1.
Lovely looking and heavy towcars.
What mpg are you getting?
The new ssangjong Rexton looks a lot like it and is apparently based upon the Merc.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Great tow motor, don't even know the van is back there.
------------- XVI yes?

3.5 tonnes with two of us in the Discovery. Tows and handles well, but note that there is very little imposed load on the car, the trailer is very stable in all conditions as it has a wheel at each corner.
Conventional loads are OK as long as the trailer tyres are correctly inflated and the load is placed properly on the trailer:
