GailK I love my X Trail too, it is my second one but both have been old ones, the original models. This one is an auto because I have arthritis in my knees but like you, I love the driving position, being high up and tbh it doesn't cost any more to run than our Almera except for fuel, of course.
Utterly reliable, at 11 years old it just flew through the MOT with just a new auxiliary belt fitted.
