Nice one Madasaman - towed for first time last weekend and tows like a dream with our lightweight Adria on back
You might want to look in on the Volvo Owners Club forum (no need to be a paid up member if you don;t wish to) as lots of tips and ideas for bits that are useful and mods etc
yep been on there, handbook not great for some things. Since I have no dipstick, the oil level is electrically measured. It doesn't tell you to hold in the start button until all the warning lights come up, then you can scroll through to find it.

Well had the car for 2 weeks now and well impressed, haven't towed with it as yet as don't have a van at the moment. Think the D4 163 (2400cc) is fine for the job and in sport mode it sits up and begs. Will be fine when we get another van.

tried to load speed cameras into the in dash sat nav but no joy. Others seem to have managed it OK. They seem to load but don't appear. Got me stumped at the mo. Loaded Archies fine.

I'm still very nervous about Volvos. My last XC70 was a shocker. High spec Ocean race, but with a 2.4 PETROL AUTOMATIC engine, Nearly broke me financially with the constant stream of bills. However I am looking seriously at a VW Tiguan. It will need to tow an Anssems trailer, which I intend to get weighed at the Easter break. Any thoughts on the Tiguan 2.0?

I traded in a Tiguan 177 TDi R Line for an XC60 ... had the Tig for just 54 weeks, it was the dullest car I have ever owned. Nothing wrong with it per se but I hated ever minute of owning it. Most folks rave about them!

I will have time to drive both during the hols. I have a Golf Plus at the moment. What draws me to VW is the fact that my present car has never so much as caught a cold in the 4 years and 50k miles. Of my previous Volvos 2 were great and 2 were stinkers. The XC70 being the worst by far. It was gorgeous inside and a paint job to die for, reminds me of a girl I knew, but cost me every penny I had and quite a few I didn't. Again reminds of.. Well I digress.
I don't mind 'dull' , but I do want reliability.
So far on the experience of car VW has given me that.
Mind you when it comes to dull the Touran beats them all!
If you rally or use mainly grass sites or similar then AWD can be a help yes, as it can solo of course in wet or wintery weather.
The D5 are all AWD which I assume you know its only some of the older D3 or new engine D4 that are FWD only
Just changed over to Pirelli All season tyres so should be better in colder stuff and "off road" in theory. The XC60 is suprisingly capable off road as has decent AWD system and good ground clearance unlike some other SUVs

wasn't aware of that...... does the AWD kick in when needed (ie. 90% - 10% driving normally) or is it AWD all of the time?
Had manuals for the past few years (just had gearbox fault of DSG auto on my VW) so unsure if I should go back to manual on XC60?
Yes I think it is something like 95/5 or 90/10 to front wheels unless needed when it can send half power to rear wheels. Its a Haldex based system I believe.
I have the Geartronic on my XC60 which suits car well. Gearbox is a little hesitant (new 8 speed is much better) but reasonably smooth and can be slipped into semi auto or gears selected using the up/down of lever.
Do test drive a manual if you want one and see how you get on as many apparently find the lack of footrest an issue (can't be fitted into the RHD cars apparently!)
I came from back to back top end BMWs and haven't been disappointed overall even though quality isn't quite there ion some internal bits. Very happy overall
Hello, Looking to change my tow vehicle this year and was looking at V70 or XC60 can anyone tell me what the XC60 is like on fuel.Would be looking at the diesel engine. Thanks.

Depends which engine you go for as there are lots of variants including the newer VEA engines in the XC60
Assuming you are buying second hand you will find some of the FWD only D3's in the detuned 2.4 diesel will generally be better than say the AWD D5 215bhp versions.
In my D5 AWD version I can get mid 40's on a steady long run, down to around 26mpg on a long fully laden towing run
