Hi all, well i have also the Antara 2.2 4x4 Exclusiv on a 62 plate , new from dealer with 28 K on the clock after 2.5 yrs, and never had an ounce of trouble with it. I would consider it to be one of the best cars i have ever driven. Ok fuel consumption is a bit crappy 30 - 35 mpg Solo and 25 towing. but what do you expect form a 2.2 4x4 diesel. Previous car was a Volvo V70 and that only did 36 mpg solo. With rgds to the DPF, i have never had the warning light on, and it goes about it business recharging the dpf about every 400 - 600 mls. Work is 15 mls with a 8 ml journey on the motorway rarely above 30 mph (M62 M60 around manchester) and then urban journeys at weekend. Tows the van extremely well at 1300 Kgs MTPLM.
Would seriously consider another one next yr when need to change, but fuel consumption might sway me otherwise to a more sedate tug for the van.
Oh and got a spare wheel for it off the internet and a part worn decent tyre from a local dealer.
Tow bar and spare wheel will be for sale next October.

rgds

So you could be going for a Skoda superb or Yeti, both will return 35 towing your van and 50 plus solo

I was realistic when looking for a towcar. I had a van in mind at just over 1600kg and had a budget in mind for the car. So extensive research narrowed me down to a short list of 1. A 13 plate Antara with 5K on the clock.

I went into this knowing that the economy was not the best, but opted for the manual over the auto for this reason.

I'm also a little concerned that with the direction that manufacturers are going with their 4x4's these days, when I come to change my Antara in a few years time, I'm not going to be able to buy one heavy enough or powerful enough to tow my van 24

Demand for Discos/Range Rovers & other 'proper' 4x4s won't go away so I'm sure there will always be suitable towcars for those that require them. The smaller Suv's, many of them with 4x4 only as an option will continue to become more like fashion items, I guess.

How do you clear the particulate filter on an automatic. When the gearbox will always change up to a higher gear. Cutting the revs down to below 2200.

To cleanPDF on auto gearbox put in postion S vehicle speed at least 50/60 mpg engine speed 1800-2500 rpm if filter is cleaned warning light should go out. This should be carried out over 15 mins run on appropriate road.

You cannot remove dpf on some cars,I asked about doing it on my Saab, but the engine management system wont have it!
Just give it a good blast regularly to clean it.
I know you can on earlier diesels, along with egr valves!
Not sure about legality of removal.

Dpf on any car should regenerate at anything over 50mph on a dual carriageway for 10miles or so. If it don't it's probably had it.
