How did you get on, Hej? have you tried it on a dual or Mway yet?

Not yet Jax - hoping to get the van out next weekend as I'm off to the Willowman Festival.

Are you a centre lane hog?

If so, don't do it when towing a caravan - you'll make yourself even more unpopular

Me? Certainly not! Until we picked up our 'new to us' tow-car, we seldom if ever ventured out of the inside lane.
One of the downsides to towing with a 24yr old tow car

Some good advice about towing on motorways.
I used to drive HGV 1 and I know from others they hate caravans as they slower as there speed.
As driver you under pressure to keep you're max speed to make you're delivers in time.
Wrong but that's how it is.

I had one big accident where I shunted a car to a total, luckily nobody hurt and not my fault but enough for me to give up.

Now when I go on the motorways with the van, I make sure I respect heavy goods and if they recognise, a good driver will, tosses don't,
They respect you.

I allways try to stick to the speed the towing vehicle is comfortable with the weight on the back.
If I have to do 40 or 45 then I will do so, regardless of following traffic.
Rather safe then sorry and block the road by tipping it over.
The volvo could go up to whatever speed without a problem but it went unstable over 60/65 so I stocked to about 55, in high winds even slower.
The pajero is far heavier and higher so the van is save behind and I could do easily 70 but still deside a comfortable speed of 55/60 is more then enough.
Maybe even 50 depending on the road surface.

I seen guys towing caravans with over 70 on motorways and me personnal things they more then stupid.
If someone like that has an accident, I am sorry but my only concern is passing it without getting involved and hold up by. His stupid behaviour .

I think towing a caravan with 55/56 adjusted to lorry speed is fair and relaxing to do so.
No matter what car or what type of caravan you tow.

Just give a bit space when a lorry is overtaking so the vacuum betweent lorry and van is not affecting your stability driving.
Also may remember, a lorry is maybe faster at the time, but comes a little hill, he will fall back like a brick, so he may get anoyed when he has to keep up with you for 15 miles up a hill and you try to race him, or show him you are faster.
Just let him go in and start you're own overtaking after.

It also keeps you awake and the journey isn't so boring as it gives you. A challenge by doing so.

Just do it savely.

Hi Helen, sorry to drag up your topic, but i've got a thomson mini glen that i plan on towing behind my mini....

I was wondering if youve tried towing your caravan behind your mini yet, and how did it go??

Also, where abouts is your towbar attached too??
