yes watch the vids, if you blank the egr off all the rubbish goes strait out , instead of be recycled , thereby leaving a carbon build up, and will still pass the mot smoke test, due to the maifold being cleaner
OK what I have found out.
The engine recirculates some oil mist from the breather and some exhaust via the EGR. On common rail diesel this worked because it lowered emissions and the diesel mix in the intake manifold cleaned the intake components as it is mixed in the intake system, diesel is a very efficient cleaning solvent. On DiD engines the diesel is directly injected so does not mix in the inlet manifold. What is in the inlet manifold is hot oily gas, carbon laden exhaust gas and fresh air. The hot gasses hit the cold gas in the intake manifold and condense. The intake system chokes on a tar like sludge. The only cure is to remove the intake and clean it. The systems that offer solvent or gas cleaning do not work as they only clean in the combustion chamber and the exhaust components, not the inlet manifold on a DiD. Symptoms are the P0299 fault code. This is generally caused by implausible MAP reading due to the hose to the sensor being blocked by crud. Other issues are clogged DPF and CAT as the engine runs without enough oxygen and also clogged EGR. Solution, there are EGR solutions for most vehicles on the web to disable it and there are filters like the Mann Provent to stop the oil mist. But you need to get it cleaned before you spend on prevention.Once clean use a deisel additive to burn off the DPF and CAT occasionally and all should be good.
