I dont know alot aout the shogun 07 engine but i imagine that it could be a euro 6 engine, if the egr valves have been blanked off could it mean this is causing the problem, by choking up and going into limp mode?

Sorry Mrs Bonce euro 5, 6 is the engines built to latest emmisions laid down by the eu.

Thanks Ray, the blank off has only just been done (Sunday). Been having problems on and off since Spring. Had the manifold cleaned out in Germany and it was fine for a while, gradually got worse with lack of power especially when taking off at junctions etc. Now has power but limping intermittently.

Three things here -
1) I would never block the EGR valve - it should be cleaned regularly.
2) Have you tried checking the fuel filters - there may be one in the fuel tank that is starving the engine of fuel.
3) Also try cleaning the engine by adding a flushing oil to the engine - running it for a few days then change the oil and filter.

Have you looked at a ssangyong rexton. Depreciation is a bit eye watering. But buying nearly new isn't so bad . Five year unlimited mileage warranty. Heavy enough to tow several twin axles at once. 😊

i would unblock the EGR valves again and start from scratch. Stating that it now as power since valves where blocked off, makes me think the fault is the ecu unable to read the egr valve.

On some engines, you don't do a 'complete' blanking of the EGR, but leave something like a 6mm hole in the blanking plate....

Also, you said it coughs and splutters - as if it's fuel starvation??

As said, I think there's a fine gauze on the end of the fuel pick up pipe in the tank, maybe that's blocked with rust bits.

But this early on an '07 Shogun??

Maybe you need to take off the inspection cover to the tank under the rear passenger seats, check and clean the gauze if there is one on the end of the lift pipe and also, with the tank nearly empty check for rust particles. These could be blocking the fuel lines too.



Just had thought while typing....

Bonnet open and start it.....

On the top of the fuel filter you have the priming plunger, have a look and has it been 'sucked down'??

If it is, this can mean a blocked filter and/or lines etc.....

Thanks, it's not coughing/spluutering any more, in fact it never did really, more like a slight hiccup when the revs are between 2 and 3 (whatever that means, only saying what OH tells me). We will try a long run again, maybe today, but we are rather limited as to where we can get decent speed up for enough time.

Keep it in 1st or second, and give it some welly for about half a mile, it does sound like the MAS need cleaning with the right cleaner or replaced, it could also be a hose that has a small split or hole going to the turbo.
Have you had it scanned for faults, and what codes have shown up.
If its an auto box has the box oil and more importantly the filter inside it been changed??

Hello, I have a 2007 3.2 DiD Shogun and for a long time suffered with engine surge, not enough to show on the RPM guage but enough for me tonotice. Checked all the web sites I could find for inspiration but could not see a definative answer. So had my mechanic strip off the inlet manifold and egr valve. Massivly covered in carbon. He did a good job in cleaning all the crap off. For two months the engine did not surge or cut out at low revs as previous. Then the problem came back. Local Mitsu dealer could not replicate the problem on road test and no error codes on the diagnostic. Back to the desk research...saw a posting from South Africa or was it Oz, mentioned a fault with the SCV can cause this issue. The suction control valve is a match box sized electonic gizmo that sits near the fuel pump and metres the fuel according to load. Mitsu dealer wantd £300 plus, I found new OEM one at a pump specialist for sub £100, once fitted BINGO, problem solved and 25000 miles further on, still no repeat of the surge or stall. Hope this story helps.
