Back in the news now & good news for diesels, petrol emissions now suspect as well... Whole motor trade must be rotten to the core, who'ed have thunk it eh..?

The cynic in me says that it's probably cheaper for manufacturers to find ways of getting round the tests than it is to find ways to comply with them.

Its quite interesting to look at the actual facts for emission standards.

Euro 6 Emission Standards

Down at the bottom are the Euro emission standards. In some ways a diesel is cleaner than petrol, and a new diesel is 3-5 times cleaner than a 2008 car.

If anything, these figures justify the government taxing older cars out of existence.

You can plan standards for cars that are going to be built but it is a bit naive to expect cars already built to adhere to standards that weren't in place at the time they were designed.

If everyone was to change their cars for new ones then the emissions caused by the construction ( from steel plants etc. ) would be enormous.

One of the major sources of emissions is the super sized ships on the ocean. Perhaps all cars should be built at the continent they are sold at.
