Or buy it outright, if you happen to have the cash lying about, or take out new finance and pay off what's outstanding.

In both cases you will, obviously, own the vehicle.

I would normally have mentioned the option to buy - but the dealer doesn't state that as an option at the end of the initial 2 year rental. Options are to give it back, rent a new car or extend the current one by 6 or 12 months.
I guess they want to maximise their finance/rental commision.

Some numptys on here, if they bought within their budget, they could end up with a pig on wheels, that could cost and arm and a leg to keep running,
If they bought the way i suggested, after 2 years the value of the vehicle is used to reduce the payments on the next one, reducing their monthly payment even further, and any problems will be sorted for free under warranty , do you often wonder how one of your friends or neighbours, manage to get a new car every year or 2, they could also be on a deal simular .
It doesn't have to be a Skoda , the deals apply to all makes.
All those who have been brain washed by the caravan rules, need to start thinking outside the box, vehicles are getting lighter but are given more power, if your unsure of if the vehicle of your choice will tow your van, ask the manufactures,or check your V5, but don't buy the smaller engine models that manufacturers have brought out ,don't forget manufacturers will have tested the towing weights of their vehicles, then why buy a 4x4 for towing once or twice a year ,(unless you really need one for the size of van ) just in case there is a damp patch on the site you visit, when it will cost you more to run for the rest of it, and the money saved buy buying a vehicle thats smaller , even the savings on the RFL could give you extra weekends or weeks away

You are the numpty Bob for confusing Personal contract hire as in your earlier link with the initially more expensive Personal contract purchase. Nonetheless as pointed out earlier if you have the capital in the bank as many pensioners do then outright purchase of the car is always going to be overall the cheaper option than any form of deferred payment which of course carries a cost.

Not that many people have the cash to buy a new car so in order to put new cars on the road leasing is offered for those that have the income but not the capital for outright purchase. If you go for PCP then the difference between initial 'balloon payment' & car retail value at end of contract can go toward rental of the next car should you choose not to buy car at end of contract. PCP usually does not include service costs whereas PCH does. If you do not intend to buy at end of contract then PCH will be cheaper for initial payment.

Any of the above is suitable for those that want a new car & can afford the monthly payments. If you have otherwise unused capitial & sufficient means to run car then outright purchase will always be cheaper.

However both PCH & PCP are binding contracts with a commitment to make those monthly payments. If you default then there will be consequenses for your credit rating. Which is why some might prefer to buy an older secondhand car & repair as required.

We were offered pcp when we were looking at new cars recently. We declined as interest is charged, and there is a mileage limit(which did not really bother us!).

As an example, KIA offered an extra £1000 off if we took out a pcp, even with interest they reckoned we would save.

We purchased a brand new Santa Fe limited edition with a discount of over £6k (manufacturers offer), got top trade in and a discount on a fitted towbar!
With a 5 year warranty we are happy!
We intended to have another Sorento, but Hyundai deal was better and its essentially the same car!
Just over a 1000 miles on it now and very happy with it.

I know SB won't approve but he doesn't like 4x4s!

I've had 3 mondeo's 2004,2011 & now a 2016 each one heavier than the last one, this current one is over 1800kgs thats 95 kgs heavier than the 2011 model.

Bessie was quoting a well known Skoda salesman who often gives incorrect information and advice on towing weights especially when answering questions from novice towers with post '97 licences.

The new mondoe is lighter, and has smaller engines in some models especially the petrol version

'Vehicles are getting lighter but are given more power'

Actually, to be fair to Bob, this statement is generally correct when new models are introduced, as manufacturers face more stringent emissions targets. This is particularly true of big 4x4s such as the Q7 and the Land Rover Discovery (480kg. lighter than the previous model) but most small models are also losing weight, despite increases in equipment. Matching cars to modern heavier caravans becomes increasingly difficult.

There is an additional problem for those with a post 1997 licence, as while cars are generally lighter, the MAM is often increasing, the new Mondeo being a notable example. Thus the range of suitable caravans is significantly reduced for these licence holders.
