Jim.

I have read the report, but this was written in October 2010 based on the original Yeti.

Later models (facelifted in 2014), which is what Bob was suggesting, are much lighter than this, and are not a suitable match.

I have had both an original Yeti and now the newer facelift one. There is NO difference in their kerb weights, and the newer model with the 2ltr diesel engine has an increased towing limit of 2100kg compared to 2000kg earlier.

Please get your facts straight.

The yeti in the Practical Caravan review had a kerb weight of 1,605 Kgs.
https://www.practicalcaravan.com/reviews/tow-car/28254-skoda-yeti-20-tdi-140bhp-4x4-elegance

The kerb weight of later models are here:
http://www.skoda.co.uk/models/yeti-outdoor/performance

The heaviest I found is 1,510 Kgs, so 95 Kgs lighter.

Having had 2 Yeti's I can assure you that the weights on both of them were the same, within 5kg. And that difference was made up from going from an SE to an SE L with more equipment.

Skoda, and all of VAG's kerb weights, do NOT include the weight of the driver, whereas the weight stated by Practical Caravan does.

Hence the discrepancy of 95kg, although normally they allow 90kg.

So what you saying about the Yeti.

That it would be safe to tow say,my Barcelona fully loaded at 1800kg.
(It had bailey max upgrade)
That would be over 100%
In fact the van would be 310kg heavier then the car.
Plus a nose weight 15kg less than the barcelona.
Put 300kg in car you be towing at around 95%.
Legal i know, wise i dont think so.

Llani Davis.

Thank you for correcting my post concerning Yeti weights. I concluded this by comparing current official weights with that quoted by Practical Caravan in the 2010 test, not realising that the basis of the figures differed. Practical Caravan allows 75kg. as the weight of the driver in later Yeti tests so there still appears to be some discrepancy in the published figures.

Interesting little exclusion on p17 of Towergate policy terms & easiliy missed.

''We will not pay for loss or damage caused by you towing your caravan if your caravan weighs in excess of 95% of towing vehicle's kerb weight'

So check your insurance if caravan is over that.

An update for the original poster:

My handbrake failed for a 2nd time (wouldn't release) got it recovered to the dealer and has been diagnosed as the control motor. This is now being replaced. Feel much happier now the fault has been identified.

The recovery driver mention that he has recovered loads of cars of all different makes with the same fault although this was the first Hyundai. That week he'd recovered a BMW x5 and a VW.
