It's a 1992 Elddis Wisp 450CT. There is a picture of it on my profile page if you want to see what they look like. It's an older style, but we like it.

Hi, when looking for a car which would be a general family runabout but occasional tow vehicle, I wanted petrol. I prefer petrol for several reasons but it was the age old question of "but will it tow my caravan yadda yadda". So I started reading, researching and thinking and learned that torq is how strong an engine is and horse power is just torq times rpm and is simply a measure of how quickly the enhine can accomplish a piece of work.
Manufacturers of vehicles provide peak torq and hp values but do not tell you at what point in the rev band these peak figures are generated. Diesel engine typically produces maximum torq low down in the rev band where petrol engine typically produces max torq higher up the rev band and usually less than a diesel. However, adding a turbo to a petrol engine tends to help it develop max torq lower down (not quite as low as your average diesel engine) but in most cases a petrol car with turbo is pretty useable as a towcar as long as you stick within manufacturer recommended towing capacity.

In the end I bought a slighly beat up loooking mk1 Skoda octavia Estate, it came with a petrol 1.8 20v turbo and produces 150 horsepower but unlike most naturally aspirated petrol engines it has lots of torq and hits max torq quite low down and maintains max torque accross a wide spectrum. It has a max breaked towing weight of 1300kg which is more that enough for my vintage 4 berth.

I took it for a test drive the other day and was cautious with my speed but the car cruised effortlessly along at 40mph in fourth at only 2000 rpm (I haven't sussed out how to fit the anti snaking bar yet) so I didnt want to go faster. But really, the car drove like there was nothing holding it back. ...I didnt go above 2500rpm and only used less than a quarter of the travel on the accelerator pedal and no issues or slowness getting going.

As a ex taxi driver I.e short stop start journeys ,we used to clear out the car diesel systems regularly this way on a run when you can get the car up to around the 60-70 mph range ,dip the clutch and rev the hell out of the car ,you should see all the crap coming out of the exhaust as a black cloud ,not good for the environment ,but it really does work and the car runs better afterwards
