3000 petrol does 15 MPG, same as a 4.6 Rangie

i am a big convert to automatic transmission !!! wouldnt touch one for years then took the plunge and bought a santa fe (as i was doing quite high mileage). firstly bought a 2003 then a 2006 hyundai santa fe AUTO 2.7 petrol converted to LPG ! theyve pulled anything, drive superb have an option of manual gear change if necessary -  i get around 4 miles per litre of lpg (not towing) - roughly equates to 18mpg on lpg and at around 60% of the cost of petrol gives me around 30mpg petrol equivalent around town driving. obv a bit more when on a long journey and a bit less if towing !

 

well worth considering buying an already converted one - if its only for infrequent use, i doubt you would get your money back on a conversion you had done on your vehicle.

I drive a Volvo truck at work, and I've just sold her S80 to a mate as she doesn't need a big car anymore.

It may have been older with way more miles on it, but the ford wasn't a patch on it.

Don't understand why the Saab could not be driven off in manual setting 2nd or 3rd. Maybe the age of the car? My owner's manual actually states that to set off in slippery conditions us 2nd or 3rd rather than D. I bought my present one on 5 Dec. It was registered in Nov 2008. It will drive off OK in 2nd or 3rd. I cannot see any 'winter' button anywhere. Also, though I have not gone through all the handbook info yet, as opposed to the previous car, there is no facility to turn off the traction control.
With regard to mpg, I think it may not be too bad. Our previous Saab, exactly the same but manual, only gave about 2-3 better mpg. However, I am on my winter wheel/tyre set which I used on the other car; the sizes are fractionally different, making the diameter slightly larger and of course winter tyres (allegedly) worsen mpg. We will see how it does after March, when the nice (better looking) summer wheels go back on.
