We had our caravan wheel come off about two years ago, and it was very frightening, with a loud rumble and the wheel overtaking the car as we was travelling. We have had three brand new caravans and a couple of second hand ones and have NEVER been advised to re-torque for any journey !! I got in touch with The National Caravan Council who were brilliant and very concerned that we had NEVER been advised to re-torque, When they had their next general meeting they sent out letters to all Dealers to remind all buyers of caravans to re-torque.We also got in touch with The Caravan Club who basically did not want to know !! Also when the assessor came to see the caravan he said he had just came from another caravan with wheel coming off and was going to another after us !! we have now bought a Torque wrench off the internet for twenty five pounds, and used it every time we go out, if they put one in every caravan and explain what they are for, I am sure people would USE them and stop a bad accident before anyone gets killed .
For those who have steel wheels with wheel trims on their caravan Al-Ko sell nut-locks for less than £10 [last time I checked] I`ve had them a few years now. These are NOT suitable for alloy wheels.
