But you read the plate previously and it was over 1400kg?

Seems to me it doesnt matter what people are going to tell you on here. You will tow it illegally anyway.

Your dad towed it illegally and your going to follow suit.

how do you come to that conclusion?

if you had of read the other posts then u will see that i could not find the plate on the caravan so i searched online for it but it was wrong as i found the plate on the caravan and i can even upload the picture i took of it.

Im not towing it illegally im well within the limits to tow this caravan. It doesn't matter now anyhow as i have a local weighting bridge and i took my car and my caravan to it and even the guys there said i can tow the caravan.

And yes a twin axle is 1198kg! its an older caravan and not as heavy as the caravans you see today.

a weighbridge can only help with the actual weight and not with the law on licencing

You are not understanding the law. The B+E licence is required if max gross weights of car & caravan come to over 3.5tonnes, this is regardless of the actual weight of the outfit on the road. You cannot load lightly to keep uner 3.5t actual weight.

I have no idea of the max gross weight of your car but I would guess it is around 2000kg. figure will be on plate under bonnet & also in car handbook. If your caravan is 1200kg max gross weight then that = 3.2t so you are good to go on a B licence.

However you need to take onboard the comments made on this thread if you wish to stay safe as you are towing fairly near the limits of your towcar.

As you have not asked any questions about servicing/maintenance of caravan & tyres I will assume you are familiar with all this?

i do understand the law. Im not gonna be loading my car up with over a ton of stuff. Im aware about servicing and everything else it was just the weights i was unsure about.

I have spoken to a sales guy from Adria and he has comfirmed my caravan weights to be correct. Even for a twin axle. many of you on here dont have to believe that my tiwn axle caravan can weigh so little. My car weights no were near 2000kg it weights 1290kg.

All any poster can do is offer advice on the basis of the information you have posted & also search out information on your behalf that you have failed to find yourself.

Your last post shows you still have no actual grasp of the law regarding licences. With the help of posters on this thread it has now been established that your car/caravan combination is legal & you are licenced to tow it.

So I suggest you do that....

its not the weight so much as your seriously UNDERESTIMATING the sheer amount of extras that you will need ,its not a tent it will need battery for the 12v ,gas bottles ,sleeping stuff ,food ,clothing .water and waste containers ,electric hook up cable ,cutlery and dishes .even if you put it all in the car (virtually impossible) you are a disaster waiting to happen .

the car is seriously underpowered for normal driving (unless you live in holland ) you risk burning out your clutch ,damaging your engine or worse .

i have seen the results of a tail wagging scenario with a turned over van and the car hanging suspended from the tow hitch .

i,m sure you will tow it and it seems you already have ?? (what with as you gave the impression of no tow bar fitted initially ) i.e dad had to bring it home . did you fit towing mirrors both sides as is legally required . did you check the van tires for pressure ,and /or wear on the sidewalls .

do what you want as you have asked for advice and manipulated the figures to fit your own scenario but make sure before proceeding further that you have a good recovery company and your fully covered in the case of breakdowns .

the black box!! since when did i manipulate the figurers?????????

I got my tow bar fitted yesterday and took the caravan to get a weight check. Also the battery is already in the caravan. I have plastic dishes for easier use. And clothing will not make my weight go over the limit.

I cant believe how much crap i have taken on here. Do you think im stupid?? Ive been driving long enough to know tyre pressures and to no how to look after things. or are you gonna say i manipulated things to get my driving license to!!!

In plain simple terms to comply with only holding a B license

(every car has a maximum loaded weight i.e how much a private car can carry ,passengers ,luggage )

Your cars MAXIMUM LOADED weight (NOT the KERWEIGHT)
added to your caravans MPTLM (fully loaded weight)
MUST NOT EXCEED 3.5tons

The 1198 MTPLM is correct but the vehicle GVW is the weight you need and not the 1290 unladen weight of the vehicle

The 1290 unladen weight has absolutely nothing to do with what licence is required - that is the same for NI and mainland UK

Read ROGS last post as I have also tried to explain your cars GVW (Given vehicle weight)that is the max weight you car be when loaded with passengers and luggage
Add that figure to your caravan max loaded weight 1198kg .
It Must NOT exceed 3.5 tons (3500kg)to comply with B licence
