just got back from a long trip up M6 Calibra 2.0ltr 16V (Tuned to 163 bhp)

Fuel computer showed avarage consumption of 26.4 MPH avarage speed 62 MPH

if sitting at a steady 55mph > 65 mph (without van) I get 48.7 mph (even with a little right foot still get that)

van is 975 total weight ...but won't all this also depend on headwinds ?

i use a mondeo tdci... 45 solo and around 25 with van mainly motorway driving.... i find that the faster you go (60-65) towing the worse the consumption gets must be the additional drag created by the van at speed because trundling around normal roads off the motorway it seems to pop up to 35+mpg. so many varibles!!!! just best to ignore the computer thingy and enjoy the relaxed drive!!!

I'm getting worried... usually only get about 22 (26 on long trips) without a big white thing behind me (should be collecting it on Tuesday, once my towbar's fitted)!

It's done about 20mpg so far, not too bad at all from a 4.6 V8 petrol!

That's because generally the bigger and beefier the engine the less work it has to do to compensate for the extra load. Great engine by the way.

My V8 Discovery on LPG works out to be about 36mpg solo. Drops to about 25mpg at 70mph (France only) with 7 of us, 5 bikes, luggage and about 1000kg on the back.
