I have the Witter removable tow bar on my Mondeo & the only issue I have is that the bar loops very low at the back so it can also be used on the x sport with the skirt kit. It does mean I have grounded the bar a couple of time, but at least it catches first so it protects the jockey wheel.
I have the dedicated wiring loom fitted which detects the electrics & disables the rear sensors & the fog light. It also incorporated the bulb failure within the dashboard display too.

Thanks for the reply Zafiral, ground clearance of the removable bar has been on my mind a lot with this car. I'd like the removabe bar thiugh, I reckon it leaves the car tidier than a fixed bar would.

I'll try to go and see some this weekend otherwise, knowing my luck, I'll make a wrong decision. I always remove the jockey wheel because the site we use has several speed ramps which catch the jockey wheels unless you crawl over them.

BB

I have never had any issues with the jockey wheel grounding, perhaps the towbar protects it by grounding first!!!

The caravan does not slope down too badly, much less than a Peg 514 I saw on site this weekend being towed by a Santa Fe.

What I mean is that the towball is not excessively low, it is the downward loop of the removable bar that is the issue.

BB i also work next to a weigh bridge, this is what i posted last year

I'm looking at changing my car at the mo and was looking at the new mondeos and mondeo estate's at the weekend the brochure weight for the 2ltr tdci is 1557, however i've just taken a 2008 titanuim x hatch 2ltr tdci to the weight bridge next door and weighed it, 1630 kg empty with a full tank of fuel.the estate is around 20kg more.

BB you need to pu 75KG ontop of that figure to give you the true kerbweight, I tow a 1500 kg coachman with mine with no issues

Bessie

I popped it along to the yard this afternoon & went over the weighbridge Bessie, it weighed 1680kgs with no one in the car & half a tank of fuel so I'm happy it'll be OK with our caravan now I know for certain what it weighs. I just need to get a tow bar on it now.

One thing to be careful of is that if the car weighs 100kg more than Ford say & it has a 90kg nose weight limit, then that is 190kg you have to take off the max payload....

I told you they were alot heavier than the brochure stated, it's always worth weighing them for peace of mind
