Just curious Bessie500, your Titanium X weighs in at 1705 Kg's, what version of the X is it? As my Titanium is only 1557 Kg's towing 1100Kgs which gives 70/71%. Just curious as to what makes the 147Kgs KW difference.
Hi vetratrot the weight 1557kgs that you suggest is the Ford brochure weight for all mondeo manual cars starting at the Edge through to titanium X sport, the higher the car spec the heavier the car.
I actually weighed my car on a weigh bridge and comes out at 1630Kgs thats a empty car with 90% fuel you then add 70Kgs for the driver and 5 kgs for a load (thats what the manufacturers do) that then gives you your cars true kerbweight, dont forget your towbar weighs in at around 22/23 kgs
I well remember back in the days of my Mk IV and V Cortinas, company cars, that Fords always were heavy-ish. I was given a Cavalier and mumped and moaned till they gave me another MkV Cortina as the Cavalier was significantly lighter and was a poor/bad match for our then Deanline Crown.
I regularly read about people taking their cars to weighbridges and if the result is heavier than the official figure, then that's what they work to. That might be fine with regard to ratios between the car and caravan, but if the police stop you and check the weight of your outfit, they won't be interested in weighbridge figures, it will be the official manufacturers figures they'll go by, and in particular the GTW.
i agree supatramp all the police would be interested in would be the cars max tow weight and checking that it wasnt over the GTW.
The Mondeo has a tow limit of 2000 kgs and a gtw of 3980

Bessie
All they would be intersted in would be that the sum of the axle weights is less than the plated weight, that the sum of the cars axle weights is less than the cars max gross weight and that the caravans axle weight is less than the caravans plated max weight. The manufacturers max tow weight would not even be considered if it was even known. They would also check that the driver is within his licence conditions.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Thanks for the explanation Bessie500, thought the 1557kg was a bit suspicious. My Mondeo is a 2010 Titanium 5 door hatch with the 2.0 L Duratorq diesel engine me thinks I'll have to visit a weigh ridge
4x4 for us anytime, towed with them for years ,had a S3 Landie,Rangie classic,3 Fronteras (company cars) and a jeep. Now on Sorento no 3.
Mondeos seem popular, but not for us.
Whatever floats your boat.

The V5 figure on my 12 plate titanium 2.0 duratorq gives a mass in running order of 1675kg.

It is only larger SUVs nowadays that are heavy enough to tow largest touring caravans. The days of large estates and saloons are over except for likes of larger Mercs, Beemers and Jags which would probably do job but caravanners usually do not buy those types of car so you don't really see them towing caravans.
Agreed. The new (2015) Merc C Class Estate is over 100Kg lighter than the one I currently have, and the new E Class next year will also me much lighter - and smaller - than my 2013 model, which at nearly 1.9 tonnes is just about the heaviest estate going. The new Passat Estate, for all its pulling capability, is less than 1500Kg.
Great for economy but not for us caravanners.
