No test required in UK to be a LGV instructor but there is a useless voluntary register !!

The code 107 next to the C1+E means the total of the plated GVW/MAM weights of vehicle and trailer cannot total more than 8250 kgs

The GTW or actual weight of 12 tonnes is for a full C1+E

Those are stipulated on the GOV sites

I was told the other day that if it's my home that I'm pulling then I can go up to 10 ton, I am trying to find out if this is correct or not?

every thing depends on what you are pulling and what you are pulling it with .
a 7.5ton mitsubishi or isuzu can be down plated to 3.5ton (3,500kg gvw )they keep the original train weight and that can be 11ton . you would have to have either a semi trailer or steerable trailer but this can be driven on a b+e licence if aquired before 19.01.2013..
see other thread about categories .

Thanks again vwalan for the info. I was booked and ready to do the C class Rigid 2 months ago, but I got so ill I had to cancel it, and still not fully recovered yet, I do need to move this beast soon at some point, as I'm thinking of selling it but first it needs some work done underneath on the grey tanks, so need it on a hard standing and not on grass, so if i can tow it on my pri 1997 licence I was thinking of getting a dodge or ford, but not costing to much and selling it as a whole, then down sizing to something similar to your set up. I am at some point going to ring up dvla when i feel a bit better and get an answer off of them.

To work out if legal on pre 97 C1+E add vehicle GVW to trailer plated MAM and if total over 8250 then its a no go

I am on my 2nd 5th wheel now. The first was an X-Tremlite pulled by a Nissan Navara. I found it under powered and very bad turning circle. So I got a Dodge Ram 2500 with 5.9L Cummins, 2WD. Then the trailer looked small and silly behind the Dodge, so we brought a full height trailer approx 32 Ft with 2 slides. Now very happy with both trailer and truck. Once you drive a 5th wheel you never want to go back to a normal caravan. On a windy day they are a joy to drive, same when overtaking artics.

I've hired a 5th wheel in Canada. Give me a motorhome or my caravan in preference any day.
