Hi, i'm really hoping that you helpful buddies will be able to help.  We're currently looking around to see about getting a caravan (have a tent and trailer at the mo!).  Does anybody tow with the above car, and would they be able to give some feedback?

Thanks everybody

Carefull with the Zafira's, they have a low towing weight, check in the hand book but if I remember it's circa 1300 kg

The Zafira`s tow weight is low considering it`s weight and engine size 1.8, but the 2.0 DTi has a less recomended tow weight than the 1.8 petrol. I have been told that this is due to cooling problems, this just puzzle`s me.

hi, we`ve got a Zafira (02, old shape, same as yours possibly), loaded, when towing, with 2 adults, 4 kids, 1 dog, 3 bikes on the roof and loads of the usual rubbish inside both car and `van.

It`s a 1.8 (like yours), the car towing weight is 1300kg and the caravan is a maximum 1300 kg too (Avondale Dart 6 berth), so we`re on the limit (we hope!!), and it tows like a dream, hardly really know it`s there, even over the top of the M62 (highest motorway in Britain it says) on the way to Angelsey (23 days and counting - yippeee!!!).

Give it a check on Whattowcar.com (it says ours is a perfect match)

Good luck caravan hunting

Andy

Hi Zafiras do have a low towing weight, i have a 05 old shape 1.6 that only has a max tow of 1100 kg even though the car is nearly 1400 kg kerb weight full tank

I tow a 1992 fleetwood that has a max weight of 1130 so with carefull loading all is legal and i don't have any problems with the Zafira apart from a few extra gear changes.

Be careful, I tow with a 1.8 2003 model, and the towing limit is 1,300kg based upon 2 adults weighing 75Kg each. Anything else that goes into & on to the car has to be deducted off the 1,300kg you are allowed to tow.

I tow a Pennine Pathfinder (1,000kg fully laden) and load my car with kids, bikes and a top box and feel that I am near to the limit, hence will be changing the car.

I have a 04, 1.8 and really did feel it when I towed a Conway Countryman which should be well within the limit.  I would be careful about towing the amx which as you have read is not very high.  I think towing the max with a Zafiria would perhaps not be to wise, certainly you would feel it!!

I have a 05 1.6 cc Zafira and when we bought our caravan we towed with the zafira for a while,  it worred me about the weight issue, i remember asking ever dealer , ever caravan sales man checking every towing website going just to make sure i could tow my van, The caravan / car mixture was very much on the limit, but it pulled great, the only problem i  can say we had was major hills, extra gear changes were needed and i think if there was more oooomph on the engine it would have been a bit better, the worst hill was Telegraph Hill, was quicker to walk up in the end but it made it.  lol

Hi

We tow a Bailey Ranger 460/2 with our 1.8 Zafira on the 53 plate - no problems whatsoever - towing weight is 1200 and our Bailey sits around 1139 so perfect match.  You might have to slip a gear if you came up against a steep hill but thats minimal and only in exceptional circumstances.

We love our Zafira !!!

every zafira made new shape and old shape regardless of engine size has a max towing weight of 1100 kgs.

if you dont believe me go to your local vauxhall dealer and get a brochure.

oh and by the way if you tow over the max designed weight and you crash your insurance company might not pay out
