hi, we`ve got a Zafira (02, old shape, same as yours possibly), loaded, when towing, with 2 adults, 4 kids, 1 dog, 3 bikes on the roof and loads of the usual rubbish inside both car and `van.
It`s a 1.8 (like yours), the car towing weight is 1300kg and the caravan is a maximum 1300 kg too (Avondale Dart 6 berth), so we`re on the limit (we hope!!), and it tows like a dream, hardly really know it`s there, even over the top of the M62 (highest motorway in Britain it says) on the way to Angelsey (23 days and counting - yippeee!!!).
Give it a check on Whattowcar.com (it says ours is a perfect match)
Good luck caravan hunting
Andy

I have a 05 1.6 cc Zafira and when we bought our caravan we towed with the zafira for a while, it worred me about the weight issue, i remember asking ever dealer , ever caravan sales man checking every towing website going just to make sure i could tow my van, The caravan / car mixture was very much on the limit, but it pulled great, the only problem i can say we had was major hills, extra gear changes were needed and i think if there was more oooomph on the engine it would have been a bit better, the worst hill was Telegraph Hill, was quicker to walk up in the end but it made it. lol
