Hi is anyone towing with a Mondeo Estate petrol, we are traveling to Devon from Peterborough in a few weeks and hubby is a bit worried.  Our van is 1000 fully laden and the Mondeo is a durotech there are two types of this engine and ours has more horses then the other!  We did travel from Peterborough to Cromer and there is a few hills on the way, he had to change gear a few times and we got 30mpg.  Does anyone think we should stay off the motorways on the way down to devon and stay on the B roads, hubby says a couple of the motorways have big long hills and hubby is a bit worried.

Thanks

I have been towing  an Avondale Olympus and now a Swift Celest with my R reg Mondeo 1.8 hatchback for 5 years now with no problems at all. We always use the motorway and can stick to 60 most of the time, although the petrol consumption drops off a bit.

I had a 1.8 Mondeo estate many years ago .. 1997-99 I think, and I towed with it. The heaviest van was an Avondale Dart 510/5 and we towed it in the Wicklow mountains which is very hilly .. no probs

Not sure about fully laden weight, but all the usual stuff plus enough clothes for 3 teenage girls for 2 weeks (so thats loads!). As for MPG i never bothered to work it out, but it would use about 3/4 of a tank on our trips from South Wales to Padstow (about £40 petrol).

Hi

We have a 1.8 Vectra estate & tow a FC 1000kg, plus 2 kids dog and the kitchen sink in the back. Some hills can be slow if you haven't been able to get speed up a bit prior to the hill. But we managed Devon at Easter without any problems usin the M5.
