Please can any one advise,

I have just bought a small camping trailer ,but as I have never towed before, trying to reverse into my driveway was hilarious. It was so bad I had to unhook and push the thing into the drive.

Without going through this embarrasment again , please can someone explain the best way to reverse.

Thanks

The answer is in your posting - "small trailer" - the smaller a trailer is, the more difficult it is to reverse!.  I can reverse and manoevere my caravan with aplomb, but my little (1.2m)garden rubbish trailer, its "unhook and push!!!

If you are going to persist, find a large empty space (Farnborough Airfield?) and take it very slowly

just remember that the trailer goes the opp way to the car steering but the smaller the trailer the quicker it turns, try just puttin a small amount of lock on when startin to go backwards then take the lock off then put lock on to follow the trailer round.it sounds harder than it is just take it slowly.

Thanks Shogun,

I will have to learn to think the opposite way round, if that makes sense

When you are pushing the trailer you lift it by the hitch, you don't need to think what way to move the hitch to steer the trailer into position.  Now if you are reversing the same trailer with your car, think about the way you want to move the hitch to steer the trailer, you will automatically steer the correct way.  Be carefull not to hit the front of you car as it moves back and forth while manouvering.  Go slow and use small movements of the steering wheel.

Good luck

Ivan
