Got our first caravan on Friday was haveing an AL-Ko hitch fitted but the dealer advised not to fit as my hitch rotates through 360 and AL-KO dont recomend as just becomes a hitch but without the stabiliser affect.

Now my question is do I go down the leaf type stabiliser or have my caravan hitch bar upgraded to a modern hitch bar then fit the AL-KO stabiliser hitch.

The leaf type I know how they fit to towcar with a braket but how are they held on the braket on the caravan. There is a flat channel fitted to van does the leaf just sit inbetween the lips

The caravan towed perfect with very little pitch ( and only on rough road surfaces ) and nearly no side movement even when HGV overtook, so not fitting stabiliser to correct any missmatch with tow & caravan

A blowout at 60mph on a bend on the A30 in cornwall convinced me, always tow with one. Won't correct a bad unit but a great additional safety device.

the stabiliser leaf goes through a plastic seat as so,and the bracket clamps onto the chassis.leaf type would be the cheapest option.

I received a heavy duty leaf type on friday.  The weight, size and thought of fitting it every time we go off frightened me!  I have ordered an Al- Ko stabilser hitch and returning the leaf type, even though it is more expensive.

Regards Bob
