its the older one, mines 2000, how do i stop it sitting down at rear when hooked up? it happens with nawt in boot and very little in front end of van/??
Spring assisters are easy to fit, but yours sounds too far gone for them. Are you sure you have reduced the noseweight as much as possible?
Does the rear suspension move easily by hand? What's it like when you have a full load in the back without the caravan? If it's OK I suspect you have too much weight in the front of your van.
i think the older V70 has a softer suspension. I have a v70 99 and similar problem. went to independ volvo specilaist re stiffening suspension and apparently if you do you may regret it for the times when not towing, makes suspension more sport like/stiff and lose that luxary ride feel. However some of the replies above suggest it might be OK. It is partly to do with the length of overhang at the back from the wheels to the towball. one option we may consider is putting boot stuff in a roofbox to move the boot load further forward.
I am concerned that being low at back will interfere with car handling safety re front wheel drive. It is a problem I agree but not sure easy soln.
jennifernn, what self levelling suspension is it and where did you get it fitted ?cost
Thanks to everybody for reading and helping, i agree the v70 is a top towcar in terms of power and safety, i have taken some advice and fitted grayston spring assists, so far so good. My noseweight was ok so hope it carries on being a great tow car.
The self levelling on our 940 is the Volvo system , we had it fitted in 1998 by our dealer along with the detachable towbar, I think it was £700 for the lot, but should have been more as they made a mistake when they quoted us! It works by "pumping " it up once you start driving, takes about 300 or 400 metres for it to level up.
I think self levelling is now standard on some of the newer cars, our new XC90 certainly has it. If you are keeping the car a while it would be worth considering. Ask your dealer for a quote then see what a suspension specialist can offer.
