been away this bank holiday upto scotland and encounted a lot of snaking ,no real side wind and only happened on the motoway at about 50mph +....

checked tyre pressure all fine,i have a alko stabiliser on ,towing a elddis shamal 1990 van. with a vw passat estate 1.9tdi...130bhp .alko only been on van about 18 months ...not sure if it a loading problem or something else..really worried now as im away to cornwall in 6 weeks and totally dreading it now.....please give me your advice...

all heavy items were loaded in middle of van, wife has all the family clothes in wardrobe.front locker has 1 x gas bottle 6kg,aqua roll, elec cables, waste containers and a few smaller items.....spare wheel, porta potti, small heater, bunkbed laddter in toilet area, there id bedding and pillows under front beds, and bits and bobs in cupboards but no real heavy items

Did you check the noseweight of the caravan?. and remember a stabilisers only an aid to reduce snaking, but if the van is not properly loaded it is not going to stop the van snaking.

its usually a loading problem get the wifes clothes out of the back and put them on the bathroom scales..i kid you not..anything in the shower area at the back if you have one.. cannot exceed 50kg ..in my honest opinion  make sure your noseweight is close to the max.. seems like you are running nose light

hey..look at the attitude of your outfit.. when hitched up is the front of the caravan slightly down...good...get around 75 kg on the towball and you will be ok from now...put the awning a bit nearer to the front to compensate for light noseweight.. trick is if you pick up the front from the jockey easy, its light....

If you're on the way down to Cornwall watch out for the tram lines on the motorway between Cullompton and Exeter (if you go that way) i past a caravan today and they chucked the van into the second lane

Were you going downhill at the time, was the road surface bumpy, was a van/lorry/bus going past?

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.

Where is the bathroom? was the toilet empty? that can be a 40kg load all on its own. If right at the back of the van in one corner as is common thats a serious weight that need balancing out.
