S Max? Thats a mini MPV isn't it? What is the kerb weight and what is the maximum tow weight. I would have thought that it wouldn't be heavy enough to tow your van.

I have the 2 ltr tdci 140 bhp.

Kerb weight 1731

max towable 1750

All the reports i have read state that it's a class leader, The bench mark for future people carriers i havent heard or seen the caravan club report. It's even won the european  car of the year award.

To set the record straight i personally think it's a very good towcar, i only tow at 1300 but intend to upgrade to a caravan with a max of around 1500 i would say this car is more than capable, we used to have a mondeo tdci before this car which i though it was the muts nuts the s max is just the same only bigger better and more powerful + the extra seats are handy.

What do the reports say about the new Galaxy ???? thats got the same engine and same floorpan infact the new transit van has the same engine.

Rgds

My mistake Was thinking of Ford C-Max. Maximum towable mass 1200kg - 1500kg depending on variant.

We have the c-max 2,0 tdci, regularly tow a fully loaded double axle trailer with a weight of approx 1500, and it definately dosen.t grumble.  Have thought about updgrading to the s-max but not sure if the heavier body will impair the fantastic performance that we have with the c-max.

you  got me worried when I first read your note on the SMAX, we have just traded our Mondeo 2lt tdci for the Smax 2.0ltdci, our van is a bailey sentator indiana mtplm of 1500kg and the match is 88%, i checked it on whattowcar.com, the reviews are excellent as a tow car and mpv. Going back to the Cmax Practical Caravan magazine did a towing review towing a lightweight twin axle van and it came out on top! Check on www.whattowcar.com its excellent for outfit matching and free to use.
