Hi all have a Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 and i want to tow a 1990 Lunar Clubman now this is quite a large van and i did not think my zafi would have a cat in hells chance of pulling it. 

According to the Lunar manual the ex works weight of the van is 18.33cwt which converts to around 932kg the gross weight of the van which i assume means maximum loaded weight is 21.33cwt which converts to 1084kg. 

My zafis max tow weight is apparently 1150kg and whattowcar gives me three green stars and says that according to a mix of European standards the match is perfect and according to British towing code the percentage is 77% so on paper everything seems to add up so do you guys think i would be alright purchasing this van as i really want to as it is in mint condition and an ideal first entry in to caravanning.  

Kerbweights for the car vary at different time due to the seats beng folded etc, if you look in the back of the manual theres a page and you are supposed to add on to the basic weights other amounts if you have air con, luggage, extra people, seats up , seats down etc. 

We used to tow our Bailey Discovery with our zafira life 1.6, many of the websites gave us false figures there were inaccurate, it also depends on the engine cc etc of the car,  my husband works for vauxhall so he checked the manual and he contacted vauxhall head office and got the right information about the towing capabiliites of the car.  I would suggest going to your vauxhall dealer they have other information in the dealerships that can help you which is not available in the back of the book .

Well based on all the figures i am seeing i think the combination should be ok fingers xd.

all zafiras old and new have a max tow capacity of 1100kgs, dont look in the back of the handbook because it is totally wrong.

kerb weight of a 1.6 zafira is 1360 with aircon and 1280 without air con.
