hi, we have a 1985 range rover classic with a perkins 4236 diesel mated to the five speed manual box. tows anything,cheap for spares,easy to maintain & brilliantly relliable & economical to boot. but I am a bit of a perkins fan & a land rover nutcase P.S. I have also towed with a3.9 v8 petrol engined range rover & auto box with LPG conversion & could not fault the ease & economy! cheers Mark & tish....

Toyota Landcruiser. It's the only towcar I have had that i sometimes have to remind myself that a 1450kg van is attached to the back.

Land Rover Discovery(Td5) is our recent purchase, we used to have a Toyota Landcruiser and I must admit it WAS a better towing vehicle, the Discovery pulls no problem but the power loss is apparent when going up long gradients.

Porbably go back to a Landcruiser in a year or two.

This thread has given us lots of food for thought. I think we've finally accepted our next car will be a 4x4 as this gives us the best weight ratio, noseweight and grip on wet ground.

freelander td4- we have an eldiss odyssey 534, however we dont take too much with us and we load the van sensibly

i tow with a merc ml350 its the same car as the 270 but mine has a 3.7 petpol v6 ...

i pull an elddis 534 1440 mplm and i don't know the van's on the back!

its the most stable outfit i've had and i've towed with a freelander and a td5 disco. the downside is i get 20mpg towing but i dont' think its that bad and well worth it for the extra power.
