Jamsie423, Same as any motor really, find a goodun' that's been looked after and it'll give no trouble, you buy a Land Rover on condition-not age or mileage. Buy a badun' and you'll hate them forever ( Like I do Pajeros! ) Mine ( L plate 300tdi ) has given me no trouble at all, is unmarked inside+out, and completed over 6000mls tugging 1100kg of van all over highland scotland this "summer" no probs. My Pajero never got beyond a couple of thousand miles at a time without needing something doing, and they cost me exactly the same to buy - but not to run!

Tonette's in the bath, hallelujah! I'm the husband and co-driver. Had the Disco for a month now and I use it for work every day and the mpg is ok but I get mileage expenses so it helps. Apart from the van we've got horses so we need to make sure we can get out there every day, whatever the weather. The Pajero we had, a 2.5td was a great vehicle, the first time I've ever taken an interest in a car. Previously, I always had an A to B attitude. I must say though the Disco tows wonderfully, the old "don't know it's behind me" is about right. Time will tell on its reliability but I do like the look of those big Landcruisers.

I am waiting for a phone call from engine specialists about my Land Cruiser Prado 3.0TD. Sounds like big ends have gone at 55000 miles. It was imported from new and has FSH. Rumours suggest it could cost up to £2000. I bought it because I thought I was bombproof with a Land Cruiser.

Thanks for the reply mister g. I've owned 3 Toyotas, my parents won't contemplate any other make, both got a car each. Maybe you were unlucky, no comfort I know but best of luck on the final bill. Every beer token counts!

misterg,

Sorry to hear about your Landcruiser. I had mine for 3 years, towed all over the place with it and have recently returned from our holiday to the Italian lakes towing our twin axle Ace, in a word "effortless".  They are normally pretty bulletproof and take a fair bit of stick before anything fails.

I've had my Land Rover for about 2 months now and have towed about 1500 miles with it and it seems ok, apart from the loss of power compared to the Landcruiser. Fingers crossed from here on in until I replace it with another Landcruiser in a year or so.

Jamsie
